One of the most common questions I get asked on a daily basis is “What vitamins should I be taking?” Let’s keep in mind that each and everyone is unique with individual needs. What may be right for one person, most likely won’t be what is needed for someone else. With that said though, there are 3 things I can confidently say that everyone should be taking to help compliment the standard American Diet, which in general needs a lot of help!
Here is my list:
Most everyone is Vitamin D deficient to some degree. Especially us in the Chicago area this time of the year. Studies actually show even in the summer months most people are still Vitamin D deficient because we are not spending as much time outside as we are designed to be. Vitamin D is an extremely powerful at helping the immune system stay strong along with muscle and bone health.
Omega 3’s have numerous health benefits, so many in fact that they are too many to list. Here is a quick summary of symptoms helped by omega 3’s:
- High cholesterol
- IBD (inflammatory bowel disease)
- Alzheimer’s disease
- Macular degeneration
- Skin issues (eczema and psoriasis)
We as Americans do not naturally consume enough healthy fats, and supplementing with omega 3’s is a great way to fill that deficiency.
Probitoics are good, beneficial bacteria that help improve digestion and overall immune function. Many people are deficient in these healthy bacteria because if antibiotic use (kills all bacteria in the body, whether good or bad) and lack of consuming healthy bacteria. Our food is highly processed and many of these live organisms do not survive that process.
Talk with your healthcare provider to discuss what vitamins and supplements you should be taking. Most everyone can benefit from adding these three things into their vitamin/supplement program.
