Chicago Chiropractor Talks Posture

Being a chiropractor is AWESOME! I get to see so much cool stuff in my office everyday that I wish I could have a video crew follow me around all day so everyone can get to see what I see everyday.

The other day a patient said to me, “I can’t slouch anymore even if I wanted to!” This is music to my ears and I thought, what a great topic for my next blog: Chicago Chiropractor talks posture.

This particular patient came in with neck and upper back pain along with headaches and fatigue. We discovered multiple areas of restriction (subluxation) in her upper back and neck. For work she sits at a desk working on a computer for 6-8 hours a day. Does this situation sound familiar to you? This description accounts for at least 60% of the people who come into my office. Not only do we need to get the spine moving better, it is CRITICAL to improve posture for overall long-term health.

Why Posture?

Posture is the window to one’s health. Who looks healthier, a person who walks down the street with their head up and looking forward, shoulders back and ready to face the work head on? Or is it the person who is looking at their feet, hands in pockets and shuffling along? Of course it’s the first one! You can tell a lot about someones physical and mental health and well-being by how their posture looks.

Many people tell me they have terrible posture and it can’t be corrected. Nothing can be further from the truth! Posture is a pattern that your body has learned over the years. Like anything else, you can learn a new pattern…but it takes time, consistency and the help of a trained chiropractor who knows what they are doing.
