I love delivering a specific chiropractic adjustment to someone who is in need of one. There are 3 things you must do after an adjustment.
Many times people who walk into my office are coming in totally stressed out. They have been going about their day, rushing from place to place, facing deadlines, short on time, not drinking enough water and eating bad foods. After an adjustment this is the perfect time to RELAX! Your nervous system will be out of the fight or flight mode it is in the majority of the day. This does not mean you need to take a nap, but do something enjoyable. Walk around the block, sit and have a coffee across the street at Whole Foods, or whatever it takes to just let your body relax for a minute or two. It can make all the difference in your health!
Stay hydrated. Sometimes after an adjustment in the early phases you may get a little sore. If that does happen, don’t be alarmed, it is actually a good sign. The best way to prevent that is by staying hydrated. Drink lots of water. If you take your bodyweight and divide it by 2, that’s how many ounces of water you should be drinking. For example, if you weight 150lbs, you should be drinking 75oz of water per day.
Most people who come to see me when they are in a crisis mode. They are experiencing a health challenge that they decided they need help with. Many times they feel hopeless. This is not conducive to healing. Stay positive, have hope that you will heal and you will get out of this health crisis. If I feel I cannot help someone with their health issues I will tell them and refer them to someone who can help. When I take on a new patient in my office it is because I know I can help them and I know they will be better off being adjusted. It helps when the patient receiving the adjustments has that same confidence in me, and in their body.
