Chiropractic Travel Tips

Who doesn’t love to travel? Spring break is upon us and many people will be hitting the road and the air to travel to fun family destinations. Travel can be tricky if you are suffering from back or neck pain. Even if you are feeling good, travel can make you feel tight, achy and sore. Here are some Chiropractic Travel Tips¬†to help you feel great once you arrive at your destination.

Move

You have to move your body! Lack of movement can create tension and pain. If you are driving make sure to get out of the car and move every time you stop. Drink a lot of water while driving because this will force you to stop often for potty breaks. If you are flying the advice is the same, get up and walk to the bathroom at least once an hour.

You can also move without getting up. Perform circles with your feet, head and neck and shoulders while sitting. Any movement is better than no movement. Fidgeting can also be a helpful habit while traveling because fidgeting will help to keep movement built into the time you are spending sitting.

Relax

Travel can be stressful. Any extra stress leads to more tension and pain. Try and stay relaxed during your travels to help alleviate any extra tension. I personally like to meditate while I am flying or the passenger in a car on a road trip. This helps me to stay mentally at ease which helps my body to stay at ease.

Once You Arrive

The first thing you should do once you arrive and settle in to your hotel is stretch. Particularly the areas to focus on are the thoracic spine (middle back), hips and shoulders. These are the areas of the body that get tight after long periods of sitting. While sitting these areas are in a flexed or rounded position which creates tightness and lack of motion. Spend 5-10 minutes loosening these areas up and you will be much happier and ready to enjoy your vacation to the fullest!

Neck Pain Chiropractor

Neck Pain Chiropractor

Everyone knows that chiropractors are great at helping relieve neck pain. In my office, people refer to me as the Neck Pain Chiropractor and I love that! There are great chiropractors all over Chicago, but if you are looking to correct your neck pain once and for all, this is your place.

We take motion study X-rays to accurately diagnose why you are having neck pain. Not only is it important to see the alignment and structure of your neck, we also need to see how/if your spine is moving the way that it should. Any areas of restriction or subluxation will interfere with how your neck is working and feeling. Not only does this lead to pain and stiffness, it can affect the function of organs and tissues. For example, neck subluxations can lead to headaches, allergies, TMJ issues, sinus problems and even thyroid troubles.

What You Should Do

If you are experiencing neck pain, and have not yet been to a neck pain chiropractor, then that should be your first step. Studies show that when you see a chiropractor first, the chances of you needing costly medications or surgeries are much lower compared to if you see a medical doctor first. Time is critical when dealing with neck pain. The sooner you are able to get it checked out, the sooner you will be able to start feeling better and get the problem corrected. Personally, I find that those who wait years and years and years to get their pain checked out end up spending more time, energy and money to get it fixed.

In conclusion, neck pain can be very debilitating. It can affect all of your daily activities , from exercise, work, playing with your kids and even simple things like getting dressed or sleeping. It doesn’t have to be this way, let us help you!

Stay Healthy This Winter

Stay Healthy This Winter

It’s time to start preparing for winter. For many, the winter months become a time of hibernation, inactivity, excess consumption and unhealthy habits. This does not have to be the case. You are still either creating health or destroying health no matter what the weather is doing. ¬†Winter is a great time to continue to build upon your health.

Have you ever wondered why the “cold and flu season” happens in the winter? Do you think it is because these cold and flu viruses are dormant and all of a sudden become active once it’s cold outside? No, these bugs are always around and always invading us, the difference is in the winter most people are run down, stressed and not following through on their healthy habits therefore making them more prone to becoming sick.

My Health Enhancer’s For Winter

Here is what I will be doing to prepare for and stay healthy this winter:

1) Get adjusted — Keeping your spine healthy and free of intereference is a great way to keep your body healthy and resistant against infection. A nervous system without stress is a nervous system that is adaptable to the health challenges of winter. I get adjusted on average once a week.

2) Get fresh air (even if it’s cold) — Most people are vitamin D deficient during the winter because you may go 3 months without ever seeing the sun! This is common, but it is not normal. Bundle up and go out side for a walk. Walking in the winter is actually a lot of fun! There are much less people out and about and you get to enjoy some silence and maybe even get to listen to the snow falling!

3) Take Vitamins D and C — We already talked about Vitamin D above as a way to stay healthy this winter. I add in extra Vitamin D and C in the form of vitamins to help give my immune system a natural boost to fight off the potential invaders.

4) Winter exercise — Try a new activity. Most people in the winter are not getting enough exercise. Besides going for a walk, try ice skating, sledding, snow shoeing, or skiing. Use the snow and cold as a chance to enjoy a sport or activity that can only be performed in the snow and cold. If the outdoors are not for you during this time, then make a commitment to try a new activity this winter. Try something that will get you excited and test your body in a new way.

5) Relax — Stress during the holidays and winter is normally at an all time high. RELAX! Take time for yourself, don’t over-spend, over-eat or over-drink. Have some fun, life is meant to be enjoyed.

Conclusion

The winter is a great time to supercharge your health! Follow the steps above and let this be not only your healthiest winter yet, let it be the springboard to your healthiest year EVER!

Chiropractors help many people with knee pain

Chiropractors help many people with knee pain

I love sharing success stories, here is one about a knee. A practice member who I’ve known for a while came in one day and was very stressed and concerned. After we got to talking she told me her knee was really bothering her and it was preventing her from working out. Working out is her life, she is in amazing shape and trains at least 4-5 days a week with intensity. She said she was at her wits end with her knee and was getting ready to see an orthopedic surgeon. I took a look at her knee and was able to diagnose what was going on. Continue reading

This condition can drastically alter a woman’s appearance, but also has many negative impacts on health as well. Continue reading
