Lincolnwood Chiropractor

Lincolnwood Chiropractor

It is official! Our office is officially located in Lincolnwood now and I am a Lincolnwood Chiropractor! All that really means is that the great service you have been receiving 4 blocks south in Sauganash is now being offered in Lincolnwood.

Thank you for all of your patience during this time as we were packing up the old office and also as we have been settling into the new office. The first thing you will notice when you come into our new space is the layout and the energy is much different. We now have an open layout office which allows for shorter wait times for you! I have always prided myself on having an office that sees patients on time at their scheduled time.

Location

We are still on Cicero Ave, 4 blocks North of our old location. Our new address is 6443 N Cicero Ave which is just north of Devon.

We have been open a full week now and have seen a lot of our patients for adjustments in this time! If you haven’t been in to the new space yet, come on in and take a look. I’d love to show you around!

How to Bend Properly

How to Bend Properly

Bending over to lift something up is one of the most common causes of a lower back injury. It can happen while peroforming a heavy deadlift in the gym, while picking up one of your kids, or even just trying to get your favorite pair of jeans out of the bottom drawer. However it happens, it is important to be more mindful of how you move your body. See the video below for a visual and description of How to Bend Properly.  Continue reading

Surgeon

Surgery? No Thanks!

Surgery? No Thanks!

I attended a recent workshop by a local Orthopedic surgeon. It was a very informative session. The topic discussed was new procedures for the knee and shoulder joints. The procedures he discussed are new, non-surgical alternatives for people who are still having pain after trying natural methods to heal first. This was a great workshop because most surgeons like to do surgery. This was a surgeon discussing ways to help people avoid surgery. Modern medicine has realized that people want less invasive and more natural methods to healing. People are more educated than ever and they realize that just numbing something or cutting it out is not going to fix the problem!

This blog post is going to be about something the orthopedic surgeon said that I will never forget. He said, “The system is set up so that all roads lead to surgery.” He went on to explain that if you enter the medical system with a pain, the protocol is to prescribe muscle relaxers, pain killers or anti-inflammatories. Or in most cases, some combination of 2 or 3 of these. If this does not help someone to feel better then you continue the medications and start physical therapy. He said this is where the issues begin. Not because of physical therapy, but because of physical therapy while on medications. Taking these medications which interfere with your pain perception, your tissues are not in their normal states. Now you are doing these exercises that can be causing further damage, but you can’t feel it! The pain is there as a protective mechanism. If you can’t feel the pain you may be working beyond the limits that you should be. Therefore, this leads to more problems. If this fails, this is when you end up on the surgeon’s table.

Chiropractic

I am writing about this because chiropractic offers a different route. We embrace the pain. We figure out why you are having pain and then work to correct that, not just merely cover it up. If you are looking to avoid surgery and get healthier without the use of medications, I am here for you!

Have you gone down this route that has led to surgery? Would you do it again? I’d love to hear more about it in the comments below.

Quick Posture Fix

Quick Posture Fix

In the following video I show you the 3 exercises I do for a quick posture fix. I do these after I find myself sitting for long periods of time. These are great stretches for people who sit at a desk all day long, sit in a car for long time periods, or after a flight. Sitting wreaks havoc on your body and these stretches will help to correct that.

Dr. B Hates Sitting

I spend 80% of my day on my feet. I’m either adjusting patients or standing at my desk doing paperwork. This last weekend I attended a conference and found myself sitting for hours on end. My body felt terrible! At the conclusion of each day of the seminar I did these 3 stretches and I was back to normal in no time!

The three stretches are :

  1. Hip Flexor Stretch
  2. Thoracic Opening
  3. Thoracic Bridge

The thoracic bridge is my favorite, but all 3 are important.

Sitting Series

Previously, I did a series of 3 videos discussing sitting and the negative effects it can have on your health. If you did not see those videos they can be founds here:

After you try these exercises yourself, let me know how much better you feel after!

Thursday Nights

Thursday Nights

Thursday nights are my favorite night of the week…family adjustment night in the Bourdage household. After I arrive home, we eat dinner, hang out as a family and then before bed my 6 year old knows it’s adjustment night so she’ll say “Baba (Chinese for dad), time for our adjustments!”

Why Chiropractors are Weird

Why Chiropractors are Weird

Would you agree with me that Chiropractors are a strange bunch of people? Sometimes when I meet another chiropractor I have my defenses up because I’m not sure if they will be one of the weird ones. And when I say weird, I mean even more weird than I am. You may think it’s odd that a Chiropractor would write a blog post titled “Why Chiropractors are Weird” so please read on. Here are my top 3 reasons for the weirdness: Continue reading

What is Chiropractic?

What is Chiropractic?

I love when people ask me this question. Chiropractic is so simple…maybe it is too simple and that’s why people have a hard time understanding it. There are 4 principles for you to know and understand to fully grasp, “What is chiropractic?” Continue reading

Tension Headaches and Chiropractic

Tension Headaches and Chiropractic

This morning I had a patient come in that I have been working with  in regards to her scoliosis. During her visit she told me she had a really bad tension headache over the weekend. She was wondering if there was anything we could do to help. I responded, yes of course! Tension headaches and chiropractic go hand in hand.

Over my 11 years in practice here in Chicago I have helped countless number of people overcome tension headaches with chiropractic care. Tension headaches are  a result of tight muscles in the neck. Tight neck muscles are caused by poor posture, stress, dehydration, and most commonly, spinal mis-alignments. Oftentimes the cause is a combination of all the things I just listed. As a chiropractor, it is my job to discover why you are having the tension headaches, and then work to help correct the cause so you feel better and have long-term relief from the symptoms.

This approach is very different than medicine. Many people take OTC medication to alleviate their tension headaches, which temporarily helps you feel better, but the headaches will return because the underlying cause of the headache was not corrected.

Tension Headache Symptoms

Tension headaches are characterized by a dull tightness or pressure that can be in the forehead, temporal area, back of the head and neck area, or in some cases all of the above. These headaches can last a few hours to a few days. 80% of Americans will suffer from a tension headache at some point with 3% of people suffering from daily tension headaches! Tension headaches have a negative effect on your everyday activities. When having a tension headache you will feel irritable, tired, sensitive to light and noise, and trouble focusing. This can interfere with work, family, kids, exercise and other activities that people enjoy.

If you are suffering from tension headaches let me help you! There is no need to suffer any longer. Give us a call at (773)545-9379
